The Boys is based on a comic book series with the same name and it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they take on superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
So far, some of its shocking scenes have included a superhero orgy, one character coming close to death after being strangled by an enormous penis, and another having their eyes and brain lasered out.
Audience members at home have been left disturbed by many parts of the show, but fans will be sad to see it coming to a close.
Several expressed their mixed feelings on social media in the wake of Eric's announcement, with one saying: "On the one hand, it already makes me sad to know that there will be an end (well, before a spin-off).
"On the other, it means we've only seen about half of it! Glad you were able to reach your goal."
Another gushed: "I will miss this crazy and bonkers show - I love the characters you created for us. I’m excited for season 4 and 5 and will try to just focus on enjoying them."
A third pleaded: "Give us 10 episodes in Season 5 rather than 8 then please."
However, one person seemed glad to see it go, hitting out: "This show glorifies violence like I’ve never seen in a show before."
