Played by Michelle Collins, fans of EastEnders could not believe their eyes when they saw Cindy re-appear despite having supposedly died in childbirth over 20 years before.

In fact, she had been in witness protection living as an individual called Rose Sawyer before becoming Rose Knight upon her marriage to George.

At the time of the reveal that Cindy hadn't died, she was reunited with ex Ian and living in France which saw Ian selling bread at a local market.

Prior to that, she had been living in Spain with George and their two children.

Eventually, she left George and managed to reunite with Ian which went on to coincide with the revelation that her time in witness protection was up.

It meant that Cindy was free to be Cindy again in London and ditch the Rose moniker that she had lived under for years.

However, superfans of EastEnders have now unearthed an episode of the show from the 90s which could have predicted just why Cindy opted to become known as Rose.

In the old episode, Ian could be seen beaming from ear to ear as he went to pick a single rose up off the floor.

The video was posted along with some back story as to what had just been happening with Ian and Cindy.

The message read: “Ian coming back from seeing Cindy (who’s just agreed to spend Christmas with Ian) and picking up a single rose from the floor?

"Is this coming after Ian bought her a bunch of red roses too? So he’s picked up the rose because he’s thought of Cindy? Welp.”

Speculating that this could be the decision to name her Rose, one fan referenced the programme's current producer as they said: “Did Chris [Clenshaw] watch this one day and think “Cindy = Rose Knight.”

Before another seemingly added: “When I say I yelled!”
