Steve Coogan dealt brutal blow by Channel 4 as comedy series dropped after just one season

CHANNEL 4 has axed comedy-drama Chivalry after just one series.

Written by stars Steve Coogan and Sarah Solemani, the first series aired on Channel 4 from April to May 2022.

They are reportedly developing a second series although this will need to find a new home.

Channel 4 is understood to have passed on producing further episodes.

Series 1 followed Cameron (Steve Coogan), a ‘ladies man’ producer and Bobby (Sarah Solemani), a passionate indie-darling filmmaker.

Also in the cast were comedians Aisling Bea, Wanda Sykes and Lolly Adefope, as well as actor Adjiani Salmon and BAFTA-nominated actress Sienna Miller.

Speaking in an interview with , Sarah said: “This is really the show that Hollywood doesn’t want you to see.

“We tried to pitch it in the US, no interest. Luckily, Channel 4 made it and then again, tried to sell it back to Hollywood after it was made.

“There was still a lot of fear and caution, so I was thrilled when I got the call from The Network saying not only they liked it but they were brave enough to actually stand by it.

At the time of Chivalry’s double-bill premiere on Channel 4, fans held nothing back as they commented about the series on X (then known as Twitter).

One wrote: “Halfway through the first episode of Chivalry. So far: hard work.”

Another added: “So far, Chivalry on Channel 4 gets 0/10 from me. Cynically exploiting the role of women in the film industry, in order to pretend it’s doing the opposite.”
