Hit TV drama’s future in doubt after its biggest stars become ‘too big’ to appear in third series

But other actors have been left worried at the prospect that they could lose out on work

ANYONE hoping to see another series of Euphoria shouldn’t hold their breath – studio bosses are still struggling to synchronise the schedules of their leading ladies.

The growing star power of Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney has made it very difficult to get them on the same set at the same time, resulting in the next season being put on ice.

That’s despite the fact the next instalment of the HBO drama — which airs on Sky — was commissioned mid-way through the second series’ run in 2022.

Creator Sam Levinson insists he remains committed to making a third season, but admitted: “In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.”

Those opportunities are coming thick and fast for both women, with Zendaya currently basking in the success of her latest Hollywood blockbuster Dune: Part Two and Sweeney getting big roles in The White Lotus and rom-com Anyone But You under her belt.

Though that’s good news for them, it has irritated other cast members, including Nika King, who plays Zendaya’s on-screen mum.

She recently spoke out saying: “I need season 3.

“I haven’t paid my rent in six months, and Zendaya’s in Paris at Fashion Week.

“I’m like, ‘Come home! I need you!’”

The Euphoria delay comes after savvy Zendaya renegotiated her contract to secure $1million per episode on the next series.

Now it’s rumoured that Sydney intends to do the same, but the execs might just see it as a worthwhile investment.

The show — which follows a group of teens navigating relationships, sex and addiction — remains one of the channel’s highest-watched shows.

Fans may just have to wait a few more years before they can see it again.
