ITV axes TWO comedy series as show bosses pen emotional statements to devastated fans

ITV HAS axed two of its comedy shows after one series each in its latest schedule shake-up.

The broadcaster has called time on two shows that were produced exclusively for its streaming platform ITVX.

Ruby Speaking followed call centre worker Ruby, who was played by Jayde Adams.

Viewers saw the character be the life and soul of her workplace as she and her colleagues signed up for a choir competition.

However, it's been canned after one series as a ITV spokesperson told : "Ruby Speaking sadly won't be returning for a second series, we'd like to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work in bringing [Ruby Speaking] to our screens."

The show also starred Katherine Kelly, Joe Sims, Sam Swainsbury, Jamal Franklin and Nicky Goldie.

Meanwhile ITV have also revealed Count Abdulla has met the same fate.

The show was centred around Abdulla Khan - a British-Pakistani Muslim caught up in an identity crisis.

Viewers saw the character, played by The Bay's Arian Nik, pulled by his religious mother and hedonistic friends.

His woes got worse as he became the ultimate outsider having been bitten by a vampire and turning into one himself.

A spokesperson for ITV said: "Count Abdulla sadly won't be returning for a second series, we'd like to thank the cast and crew for all their hard work in bringing [Count Abdulla] to our screens."

The axes come after the broadcaster unveiled a raft a new and returning shows in its spring schedule update.

Beloved dramas such as Midsomer Murders and Professor T were all given new series with shows such as Cancel Culture and Hot Stuff commissioned.
