Vigil frontwoman Suranne Jones, 45, kept snug in a black puffer jacket with matching dark trousers for her commute.

She took a perch on one row of seats while her pal took her picture sitting opposite.

Suranne turned her head to one side as she flashed a cheeky grin to the camera.

The male passengers sitting either side of her appeared completely oblivious to her celebrity status.

Instead, they stared straight into the distance, leaving one of the Gentleman Jack star's Instagram followers to quiz: "Imagine sitting next to Suranne not knowing Suranne."

A second put: "How are your fellow passengers not taking a selfie?" as a third confessed: "I'd totally faint."

Another then mused: "So nice to see such a big star doing normal stuff like getting a busy tube, a lot of actors feel they don’t want spotted and hide away."

One fan simply added: "Don't people recognise her?"

In her image caption, the Chadderton-born star explained her reasons for being in London and admitted she'd had a "fab day".

Gentleman Jack viewers all have the same complaint about Suranne Jones after latest episode

Suranne wrote: "End of a long creative storylining day with @amoconnor01 and @monumentaltelevision who then invited us to a small private screening of @backtoblackuk.

"Tube, cupoa and a sleepover.

"News of our efforts with you soon. Perfect end to a fab day."

Screen queen

Suranne recently opened up on her plans to "quit" acting after the second season of nail-biting drama Vigil was met with lukewarm reviews.

She rose to fame as Karen McDonald in Coronation Street in 2000 before going on to star in hugely successful dramas including Doctor Foster.

Suranne and her husband Laurence Akers previously launched a production company called TeamAkers Productions.

It's behind her upcoming ITV show Maryland set to launch this year.

She said: "Me and my husband, we set up our production company and made Maryland and we just made our first documentary.

"We just got two commissions that will go into production next year.

"I love it. I'm hoping to eventually make projects that I'm not in. I can have a couple of tea and chill.

"It would be good to not do everything. But I'm very excited about our projects next year."

Viewers had been left disappointed by the return of Suranne and Rose Leslie in Vigil's second series - claiming the plotlines were "unrealistic".

Yet Suranne's latest telly role - playing Traitors host Claudia Winkleman - proved a huge hit.
