Vicky McClure is worlds away from Line of Duty and Trigger Point in first look at twisted new drama Insomnia

THE series will be avaiable to stream on Paramount+ in the UK.

LINE of Duty and Trigger Point star Vicky McClure looks unrecognisable in newly-released pictures for Paramount+’s latest gritty drama.

The upcoming original drama series Insomnia is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by bestselling author Sarah Pinborough, who is also executively producing the series.

In the images, This is England actress Vicky McClure is seen in the lead role as successful career woman Emma Averill.

Paramount+’s Insomnia follows Emma, who starts fearing she might be losing her mind when her hard-earned dream life begins to turn into a nightmare a couple of weeks before her fortieth birthday.

As her birthday approaches, Emma stops sleeping — just as her mother had experienced before she suffered a violent psychotic breakdown on the night of her own fortieth birthday. 

Emma’s mother always warned her she’d go down the same path and that she had the same “bad blood,” and now Emma’s terrified that it’s coming to fruition.

Things go from bad to worse as Emma’s world starts to unravel, and she realises that only by investigating the truth of her painful past can she find the answers to her present and prevent tragedy from striking again. 

Also in the first look photo collection are Tom Cullen as Emma’s loving husband Robert; Smylie Bradwell and India Fowler as Will and Chloe, Emma and Tom’s children; Emma’s estranged sister Phoebe, played by Leanne Best; Corinna Marlowe as Emma’s mother Patricia; and Caroline, Emma’s friend and confidante played Lyndsey Marshal.

Also starring in Insomnia is Dominic Tighe and Jade Harrison, who will be playing the Averill family’s close friends Julian and Michelle Simpson, whilst Robert Gilbert is Faisal and Michelle Bonnard is D.I Hildreth.

The series is directed by Börkur Sigthorsson and produced by Charlotte Essex, with Andy Harries, Jessica Burdett and Tim Bricknell as Executive Producers.

Paramount+ has confirmed that the six-part series will debut exclusively on Paramount+ in the UK on May 23.
