STRICTLY Come Dancing pro Giovanni Pernice will be given a celebrity partner on the series this year, according to show sources.

It comes after BBC bosses doubled down in their support of the Italian, despite controversy surrounding his previous pairings.

The Sun on Sunday told how his celebrity ex-partners Amanda Abbington, Ranvir Singh and Laura Whitmore met up last month to compare notes about their negative experiences with him.

Last week, a source for the BBC show claimed Steps pop star Faye Tozer, 48, also broke down after struggling with the intense training schedule.

But Beeb producers are committed to championing Italian stallion Gio, 33.

A source said: “Following a positive meeting with bosses last week and in light of the fact that no official complaints have gone in about him, despite noise over his training style, Gio is being welcomed back with open arms.”

A BBC spokesman said: “The professional dancers for 2024 will be announced in due course.”

Amanda Abbington has appeared to take a cryptic swipe at Gio after it was revealed that the BBC had backed him in the show row.

A post on social media read: "Make people feel embarrassed of being associated with misogynists.

Make misogyny unprofitable for anyone to pursue.

"Deprive misogyny of the oxygen it needs to survive."

Earlier this week it was another Strictly feud was 'revealed’ after one of the professional dancers has snubbed Gio on social media.
