News of the Gogglebox star's death shocked fans across the country and left his family devastated.

What was George Gilbey's cause of death?

Gogglebox star George Gilbey died aged just 40 on March 27, 2024.

Police confirmed that the TV star tragically passed away after falling from a height.

He had been "working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below," Coroner’s officer Deborah Frost said.

Paramedics and police attended but he died at the scene.

His provisional cause of death was recorded as “traumatic injury to head and torso consistent with fall from height”.

Senior Coroner Lincoln Brookes said: "I ask that my deepest condolences are passed to the friends and family of George Gilbey.”

A man in his 40s was previously arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter in connection with the incident.

He was later released by police under investigation.

The last photo of the star was snapped just days before he died and was a selfie at the gym.

What has been said about George Gilbey's death?

George's mum Linda was "left in bits" following the news of her son's untimely death.

One of his close pals told The Sun: "This will hit his family very hard, especially Linda.

"First, she lost Pete, now her son as well. She is incredibly emotional."

George's grieving family are yet to make an official statement over his death.

However, Gogglebox broadcaster Channel 4 released this statement: "George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George’s family and friends at this very sad time.

Tributes poured in for George, with former EastEnders star Danniella Westbrook sharing a sweet snap of George and his mum on her Instagram.

She wrote: "Gone too soon. Good night, my darling friend George.

"I'm absolutely gutted xxx."

Former Celebs Go Dating agent Nadia Essex wrote: "Heartbroken to hear George has passed.

"I will never forget the crazy times we spent together. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered."

Geordie Shore's Ricci Guarnaccio also paid tribute to George.

He wrote: "Breaks my heart but George Gilbey you are well and truly going to be missed my friend.

Always lit up the room, cared for others and the memories we made I’ll cherish for ever brother. From CBB to speaking to you last week, I’m going to hugely miss you my boy"

What was George Gilbey known for?

Together with mum Linda and stepdad Pete McGarry he joined the cast of Gogglebox in 2013.

The Essex family were axed from the show in 2014, with George heading into the Celebrity Big Brother house that same year.

He was a popular housemate and made it to the final, just missing out to actor Gary Busey.

George's parents rejoined Gogglebox in 2016.

Tragically in 2021, George's beloved stepdad Pete died suddenly after being diagnosed with bowel cancer.

Linda said at the time that Pete had been "her life", and George had been "really cut up" by his stepfather's death.
