The 47-year-old has joined Sky News, becoming one of the 24-hour channel's anchors.

He previously fronted Channel 5's news programmes before leaving the broadcaster in 2017.

Matt has since updated his look and now sports a tidy beard - something which Sky viewers have taken aim at.

The dad-of-two has been forced to hit back at trolls who have commented on his appearance.

One viewer fumed: "What on earth possessed you to grow that beard? You used to look so well presented, now, well, it just doesn't suit you."

A second chimed in: "It makes you look ten years older. I much preferred the shaven look. Really sorry."

In an epic comeback, Matt simply said: "Thank you for the unsolicited critique. Mrs B likes it."

Other fans rushed to compliment him on his look, with one posting: "Who cares what others think… you do what you like and what suits you."

Another wrote: "Matt I'm with Mrs B.. it's awesome."

"I love it it's not like a bush," said a third.

Matt has worked on some of the biggest stories over the last 25 years for a variety of outlets including the BBCITV and Channel 5.

Previously speaking about joining Sky News, Matt said: "Now is the perfect time to join Sky News as it continues its exciting evolution under relatively new leadership.

"With much of the world's population heading to the polls this year, including general elections in the USA and - most likely - the UK, there is nowhere better to be involved with breaking news.

"I'm looking forward to providing our audience with a trusted and balanced understanding of what is happening in an increasingly polarised world, with humility, honesty, and humour too."
