TV’s Victoria Coren Mitchell has accused Ovo Energy of driving her to despair by taking thousands from her account.

The BBC Only Connect host, 51, described the company as the “most terrible service provider”.

She added: “Nothing but legal action will do for them now.

“Quite apart from the money they’ve wrongly taken, have driven me personally to despair.”

On X/Twitter, Victoria said she had reached the end of the road with Ovo, and asked if rival Octopus was better — with 34,000 people replying to her poll.

Ovo also responded on the platform, saying it had contacted her.

It said: “We’re sorry about your recent experience with us.

“One of our senior complaint handlers has reached out via email to address this situation for you as a matter of urgency.

“We hope we can fully resolve this for you quickly.”

Ovo was founded in 2009 and supplies 4.5million homes.

Last year Ofgem ordered it to deal better with complaints and to cut wait times.

An Ovo spokesperson said: “We’re always striving to provide the best possible experience for all our customers.

“Our teams work extremely hard to provide help and support, and will continue to review lessons learned.”
