A HOMES Under the Hammer buyer was left in tears after seeing her £79K property in despair transformed into a stunning mid-terraced home in honour of her late husband.
The house hunter was ready to relinquish the damp-invested Nottinghamshire property before her son took it on.
During the Homes Under the Hammer episode, BBC expert Tommy Walsh was told by Linda that the property was a tribute to her late husband, who had died of cancer.
The buyer revealed to the host that they planned to take on the project management and work on the tools simultaneously.
However, the dampness made the conditions totally uninhabitable, so the property needed to be completely stripped back to its original shell and re-done.
Even Tommy, 67, noticed that throughout the house there was mould everywhere.
During the house tour, the expert spotted several issues with the house, including its fractured stone lintel on the exterior and poor windows.
But one of the most problematic issues was that it had no heating throughout and damp rotting the stone.
Linda admitted that she purchased the home for her son, and the duo fell in love with it.
She also explained that her son, Tommy, decided to take on the huge project to recreate history because her late husband had taken on a similar project a decade before.
He planned to spend five months refurbishing it, with a maximum budget of £10k, as he wanted to move in with his partner.
Unfortunately, it was still incomplete a year and seven months later, but Tommy revealed he had to take a break for a couple of months.
Tommy planned to finish the rest of the project in the coming weeks, with the upstairs, living room, and kitchen already finished.
Linda was speechless to see the breathtaking transformation as she reflected on how her late husband would have felt seeing them get stuck in on the work.
The upstairs boasted three large bedrooms after extending into the loft, while the rack and ruined bathroom had a modern chic feel.
The house owner teased that her husband would have preferred the makeover to be “done a lot quicker” but disclosed he would be bursting with “pride” knowing how hard her son had worked on it.
Tommy and Linda admitted they went slightly over budget, spending £11k when they eventually finished.
However, in a twist of events, Tommy decided that he would no longer move into the residence but, due to the sentiment around it, would rent it out.
Due to Tommy’s efforts, the home would sell for around £110,000 once completed, meaning they would instantly make a pre-tax profit of £14,500.
Renting would rake in £650 per calendar month for the duo, as Linda revealed that they already had tenants ready to move in after the utility room and garden were finished.
In a separate episode, Homes Under the Hammer host Dion Dublin refused to enter an 'incredibly filthy’ property ‘full of rats', which later underwent a stunning makeover.
