The former Love Island star had the procedure done before Christmas but left fans in the dark over the reason for the op.

However, after taking to social media today, Zara has revealed she is suffering with one of her legs and could need another operation.

Zara says she has a stress fracture in her tibia and, despite cutting back on strenuous activity, doctors say it is getting worse.

Medics have suggested she may need metal screws and plates inserted into her lower limb to help it finally heal.

But, feeling nervous at the thought, Zara has reached out to her army of followers for help and advice.

Alongside a snap of herself standing in a hospital lift, Zara wrote on Instagram: "So I have quite a significant stress fracture in my tibia that isn't healing.

"It stretches pretty much the entire width of my bone.

"The professor who operated on me back in December has advised that I am likely to need further surgery where they put metal screws and plates above and below the fractured area to fuse it together."

Zara said she is struggling to find information about her condition online, so is hoping someone else who has experienced a stress fracture in their tibia can help her.

"How long were you off your feet for? How bad was it? I have lots of questions!" she added.

Zara went on: "I'm just weighing up whether to crack on and go ahead with the surgery or wait and hope that it starts to heal on its own.

"If it doesn't, then I will need to have surgery in 3-6 months anyway.

"Basically, either way I need to limit my movement for the next few months regardless of surgery or not; so I don't know whether I should just go ahead and get it done. "

Zara told her followers that she was about to have CT scan to check for "calcium deposits", which would indicate healing.

"But in short, I've been getting MRI scans and it's getting progressively worse despite me not doing any strenuous activities," she admitted.

"I was told you could move around with a stress fracture but I've been in a lot of pain, thinking that perhaps it was normal. Turns out it's been worsening!"

Zara first hinted that something was wrong medically in December after sharing a selfie that was snapped in hospital.

The star, who is in a long-term relationship with Sam Thompson, was in pink pyjamas sat in a hospital bed with a cannula in her arm and a ID wristband around her arm.

"Had a little procedure done yesterday!" she wrote cryptically. "Now ready for a super chilled Xmas."
