Whitney's life was left hanging in the balance after she was hit by a car.

Whitney and her partner Zack headed to Milton Keynes to visit Bianca, and discover that Bianca was feeding two neglected kids - Britney and her brother Taylor.

It soon emerged that they shared a drug addicted mother who had a dodgy partner.

It left pregnant Whitney remembering her own childhood that led her into being groomed and abused - so she decided to help.

However, things took a dramatic turn when Britney ran away from her mother after being threatened, and Whitney chased after her, only for her to be hit by a car.

But despite the drama, some EastEnders viewers were left underwhelmed and unimpressed.

Taking to X - formerly Twitter - one fan wrote: "Eastenders hits another low with this woke BS story line. Sooner Whitney is gone the better. Yawn yawn zzzzz.";

Another added: "seriously bored of this Whitney story line. When is she leaving? #eastenders."

A third tweeted: "I'm pleased that Shona and Patsy got to work together again but no, I didn't enjoy that episode. It was very depressing."

Meanwhile a fourth commented: "That is up there with one of the worst episodes of #eastenders in a while."

It was revealed that Shona McGarty - who plays Whitney - was leaving EastEnders back in July last year.

EastEnders newcomer Kirsty Curtis looks unrecognisable from on-screen character ahead of Whitney’s dramatic exit

The 31-year-old has played the character for 15 years, but exclusively told The Sun on Sunday at the time: "I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders.

"I have loved my years in the show. I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships — and family — which will endure.”

A source added: “It wasn’t an easy decision for Shona to make and she is gutted to be walking away from her soap family, especially as she has grown up on set with most of them. She’ll be sorely missed by the cast.

“But she feels like now is the right time in her life to step away and try something new.

“She is hoping the door will be left open for her character to return one day, but nothing is guaranteed and it is all in the hands of the scriptwriters.

“They could decide that another soap death would create an explosive exit storyline and get people talking, but that’s always a risk actors have to take when deciding to leave.

“Shona is really looking forward to new projects and expanding her career horizon.

"It will be exciting to get her teeth into something new after so long playing one character.

“As well as acting, Shona loves singing and has a real musical talent, so that is one of the options available.”
