A GRITTY BBC crime series is set to returns to screens this year with a new season and spin-off show.
The popular show gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the Scottish courts and justice system.
Now popular crime series, Murder Trial will return for two new series and a podcast for BBC Scotland, BBC Factual and BBC Sounds.
The upcoming season will focus on the deaths of Caroline Glachan and Ean Coutts.
Caroline Glachan - was a fourteen-year-old schoolgirl whose body was discovered on the banks of the River Leven in Renton on 25 August 1996.
Caroline’s death has become one of Scotland’s most high profile and devastating unsolved cases.

Despite extensive enquiries and one arrest over the years, police failed to charge anyone for the murder.
But, in November 2023, the long-awaited trial took place at Glasgow’s High Court.
Robert O’Brien, Andrew Kelly, and Donna Brand - faced charges of murder, 27 years after Caroline’s tragic death.
The trio were charged with violently attacking the schoolgirl and pushing her into the River Leven.

Sadly, a fourth suspect passed away before authorities could arrest her.
The upcoming season will also look at Ean Coutts' murder case - a 60-year-old retired army veteran whose remains were discovered in an abandoned industrial unit in Glenrothes, Fife in 2020.
Police used a facial reconstruction image to confirm his identity as Ean Coutts, who resided alone in Kinglassie, a small village in central Fife.
Three years later viewers will watch as 33-year-old David Barnes stands trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, accused of Ean’s murder.
Meanwhile, a new ten-part podcast series, Inside The Murder Trial, will delve deep into the case of Renee and Andrew MacRae who vanished in 1976.
It will be hosted by reporter Jane McSorley and will include impactful throwback clips and important guests.
