DR HILARY Jones has revealed his beloved mum Noreen has died aged 97.
The TV medic, 70, announced the sad news on Lorraine this morning, telling host Lorraine Kelly: "We were celebrating her wonderful life. She was 97 years old, she was a kind, generous, very knowledgeable and wonderful woman. She was a remarkable woman."
He added: "We just got together and celebrated some of the happy times. It was a fabulous day, just remembering all the caring she gave.
"She was skilled in antiques, being a nurse, she was a great mother, grandmother and great grandmother as well. We had the opportunity to get together and to celebrate her life."
Host Lorraine told her friend she was "so sorry" for his loss and fondly remember Noreen's previous appearances on the programme.
Mother-of-four Noreen published her first book - a memoir about her early life - aged 92 and appeared on Lorraine to promote it.
The book, named Noggy after her nickname, detailed her experiences growing up through World War Two.
Lorraine joked she was "much sharper" than son Hilary and asked Noreen how she stayed young.
The modest author replied: "I'm very interested in gardening, horticulture, outside.
"I like to go out every day, stay active. I belong to a horticultural group, I belong to another group which meets for conversation to help people who are lonely.
"I think it's very important to do something with somebody else everyday.
"I always have a project list."
Dr Hilary said his mum remained so popular because she had no class consciousness.
He said: "She would talk to everybody from any background, no matter where they came from."
Hilary said he learned lots of fascinating information about his mum through the book including an anecdote about his grandfather who was shot in the neck during the Battle of the Somme in the First World War.
The doctor proceeded to present his mum with some flowers for Mother's Day.
He added: "The family are so proud of you for what you've achieved."
