Viewers watched as Trixie Aylward's anticipated happy ending didn't go to plan.

Her husband Matthew, played by Olly Rix, was left embarrassed as his financial situation was laid bare for her.

After Matthew's car was repossessed outside Nonnatus House, Trixie - played by Helen George - tried to accept their situation and attempted to live on a budget.

But Matthew made it clear he wouldn't live a modest lifestyle and announced the family would move to New York.
