Pop superstar lands new food and wine show in major career transformation
AS a wine connoisseur with his own range in the shops, Gary Barlow couldn’t have chosen a better place to visit than South Africa for his new travelogue show.
While in the country, which is packed with vineyards, the Take That frontman will sample the local cuisine and indulge in the odd local safari.
A TV insider said: “He’s a huge fan of South Africa and has been there on several occasions previously, so it was a natural choice as a destination for his first travelogue.
“And, of course, because it is one of the world’s biggest producers of fine wines, he will be in his absolute element delivering this show.”
The programme, which is made by the same production company that gave us Ainsley Harriott’s Taste Of Malta, is due to air on ITV later this year.
Let’s hope he has more luck on this trip than he did on one visit to South Africa in 2012.

Flying there from London with British Airways, the pilot had to turn back three hours into the journey when all the cabin crew mysteriously started getting ill.
Gary launched his organic wines in 2021, with labels that are, appropriately, adorned with piano keys.
Although his launch got mixed reviews from the supposed experts, last year he celebrated selling more than a million bottles in stores ranging from Morrisons to Harvey Nichols.
Take that, critics.
CHANNEL 5 will look into what went wrong onboard the Titan submersible that imploded and claimed the lives of five people on a dive to view the Titanic wreck.
In the special next month, Dan Walker and Dik Barton, the first British man to dive the Titanic, retrace events.
MASTERS ALAN SIX APPEAL
EVERYTHING Alan Carr touches turns to gold it seems.
His Italian Job makeover show with Amanda Holden has been renewed for a third series, and the comic’s Picture Slam reboot for ITV is hitting its stride.
I can reveal he’s also had good news for Interior Design Masters on BBC One.
Alan is now casting for his sixth series before the fifth has aired.
It sees keen home designers take on a series of challenges such as tricky clients or demanding spaces.
The appeal for people to take part says: “Ten talented designers.
“One life-changing contract.
“Alan Carr and interiors guru Michelle Ogundehin are on the hunt for talent, passion and dazzling designs.”
But Alan’s CV certainly isn’t in need of a makeover.
VITALI ON BOX FOR SKY DOC
SKY has announced a range of new documentaries from around the globe.
Coming later this year, Klitschko: The Fight Of His Life follows former heavyweight boxer Vitali Klitschko in his journey from the ring to political office as the longest-serving mayor in Kyiv, Ukraine.
And Black Widow will detail a decade-long investigation into one of Britain’s most dangerous female murderers, Dena Thompson.

Following on from Liverpool Narcos and Dublin Narcos, Ibiza Narcos will show how the formerly tranquil island was transformed into one of the world’s party capitals – with a major illicit drugs trade.
The series also includes Backstage With The London Philharmonic Orchestra, and two programmes about artists, My Week With Maggi Hambling and The Pilgrimage Of Gilbert And George.
