Denise, along with the five other members of 'The Six', buried Keanu Taylor's body under the floor of the cafe after Linda Carter stabbed him to save Sharon Watts on December 25.

However, she has been rapidly unravelling ever since, and has started seeing and hearing Keanu around her house.

At the end of last night's episode, she paid another visit to ex-husband Lucas - who had killed a number of people during his time on the Square - as she turned to religion to try and find guidance.

Sitting across from the killer, she said: "You’ve got to help me, I don’t know who to trust. I don’t know who to turn to.”

Lucas told her that she needed to open up and let him help her.

He added: "There’s a battle raging inside you, I can feel it. I know that battle, I’ve been there. I’ve been to that place. It’s dark, it’s hopeless.”

“It’s the devil,” replied Denise. “And I let him in that night. I just want to be left alone. I want him to find peace.

"I’m scared Lucas. I can’t sleep. I don’t know who to trust. I don’t know who’s real any more.”

“Confess and you’ll be free,” Lucas told her, but struggling, Denise said: "It’s not just my secret. The others, you don’t know what they’ll do. You don’t know what they’re capable of.”

Lucas looked intrigued and determined to get information out of Denise, telling her: “So tell me, what did you do?

“If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and he will forgive us our sins. And he will purify us from all unrighteousness. Unburden your soul, Dee…”

Looking at Lucas she said: “I buried him. I put him in the ground.”

But EastEnders viewers think Lucas has an ulterior motive to trying to help Denise.

Taking to X -formerly Twitter - one wrote: "I still think Lucas is trying to get information from Denise he can use to his advantage."

Another added: "He's settling her up to get early release."
