Craig broke down when sharing some of her final words

When Stacey asked what led to the house getting so cluttered, he revealed that his wife Lois died of cancer five years ago and it's been an uphill battle to keep on top of everyday tasks since.

Later, while going through all the family's belongings after they had been moved to the show's warehouse, Craig found his wife's old Christmas diary.

In it was an entry about the last festive season she spent with her husband and daughters.

She had written: "If it was the last one - and I sincerely hope it isn’t - it's the best Christmas I had because it was smothered in love as all Christmases should be."

Craig broke down in tears after reading those words, and a sympathetic Stacey was quick to wrap him in a comforting hug.

Viewers were also left sobbing after the emotional exchange, and took to social media to share their thoughts.

One person wrote: "My heart breaks for Craig and his 2 little girls. No family should have to go through that, but it’s clear he’s just in a bit of rut. Those girls idolise him, and that’s what he has to hold on to."

Another wept: "Oh God I'm crying already."

A third added: "I’m NOT going to cry I’m NOT going to cry dammit!!!!"

A fourth shared: "Very happy that #sortyourlifeout is back on, but already floored by the heartbreaking circumstances of tonight's family."

Everything to know about Stacey Solomon

The young girls - aged 4 and 6 - were delighted to come back to a house that had been gutted of excess belongings and renovated.

One of the first things Stacey made sure to show them was a new reading nook she created where they could look at stories their mum wrote for them while she was alive.

The dad's bedroom was also completely transformed, and the Sort Your Life Out team remodelled a wardrobe into an office for him, so Craig can get some peace and quiet while working.
