CALL the Midwife fans were left devastated last night after they discovered the BBC drama had been pulled from screens in an “unfair” schedule shake-up to accommodate the BAFTAs.

Fans raged that Call the Midwife is the “highlight” of their week and without it, their evenings were “ruined.”

Series 13 of Call the Midwife premiered on January 7 and there has been no shortage of drama in the close-knit community of Poplar.

Storylines so far have seen Dr Patrick Turner (played by Stephen McGann) and the midwives and nuns of Nonnatus House deal with harrowing illnesses such as childhood cancer and tuberculosis.

And, fans were devastated when Fred Buckle (Cliff Parisi) came close to losing his life from a deadly bout of tetanus.

Tragedy continues to follow the residents of Poplar as Patrick and Shelagh (Laura Main) are at risk of losing their foster daughter May Tang after she nearly drowned at the beach.

Meanwhile, money worries have prevented newlyweds (Helen George) and Matthew Aylward (Olly Rix) from enjoying their new life together.

The show’s rising tensions have been keeping viewers gripped. However, fans were left fuming when they discovered they would not get to see the story continue last night, especially as there are only two episodes remaining in the series.

The BAFTAs began at 7pm on BBC One and the two-hour award show took the spot of Antiques Roadshow and Call the Midwife.

However, while Antiques Roadshow was bumped to BBC Two, the latest episode of the beloved period drama was pulled from altogether.

Many Call the Midwife fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to voice their disappointment.

“Well, that’s Sunday evening viewing ruined,” one fan commented.

“Nooooooo. Not fair. CTM is the TV highlight of the week!” another despaired.

A third said: “Is there a helpline we can ring for support, or were they not invented yet?”

While a fourth moaned: “Say what?! That’s a long wait. Will survive somehow.”

The shake-up to BBC One’s schedule means viewers will have to wait until Sunday, February 25, for episode seven.

What will happen in the next episode of Call the Midwife?

It’s October 1969, and the residents of Poplar are preparing for Halloween.

Newcomers Rosalind and Joyce are both thrilled to receive their red cardigans, but when Joyce receives an unexpected visitor from her past, she must put all distractions aside to focus on her patient.

Meanwhile, Matthew and Trixie struggle with their change in fortune, and Trixie’s lack of sleep prompts her to seek help from Dr Turner. As Matthew vows to overcome their financial troubles, he is offered a lifeline from an old colleague.

However, it may only be a short-term fix, as the BBC confirmed Olly Rix, who plays Matthew, will be leaving the series.
