Iconic 00’s British pop star performs viral hit for star-studded crowd at the 2024 Bafta awards
Despite it being 23 years since it first hit the charts, this classic has captivated a new audience thanks to Saltburn
SOPHIE Ellis-Bextor wowed with a killer performance of her viral hit Murder on the Dancefloor at the 2024 Bafta awards.
The 44-year-old wore a plunging black dress with orange frill as she sang on stage in front of a star-studded crowd.
Sophie’s 2001 hit had a resurgence in the charts after it appeared in the end scene of last year’s controversial film Saltburn.
For those who haven’t seen Emerald Fennell’s film, Irish actor Barry Keoghan is seen dancing around a mansion totally naked.
The noughties hit playing out over the full-frontal nudity scene caused shockwaves online – and instantly went viral.
The song originally peaked at No2 in the early Noughties, being held off the top spot by Daniel Bedingfield’s Gotta Get Thru This.
It comes as…
- The winner’s of this year’s Baftas have officially been announced
- Oppenheimer scoops seven gongs as it dominates Baftas
- Prince William turned heads as he arrived without Princess Kate as she continues recovery
- Emily Atack showing off her growing baby bump in a stylish dress
- Singer Dua Lipa and her rumoured boyfriend Callum Turner hit the carpet
Now Sophie is capitalising on her new, younger fan base by collaborating with two of the biggest names behind Noughties pop hits.
She has joined forces with songwriter Cathy Dennis — who wrote I Kissed A Girl for Katy Perry and Toxic for Britney Spears — as well as producer Richard X, who worked on hits for Sugababes, Will Young and Rachel Stevens
During an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine yesterday, Sophie added: “I have been getting a lot of messages from people who weren’t actually born when it came out the first time.
“That is really lovely and very special.”
