ITV viewers were left raging after the dramatic thriller series After the Flood concluded with a major cliffhanger last night.
The sixth and final episode aired on Thursday, but fans of the show are demanding more episodes from ITV as the story was left “unfinished.”
After the Flood follows PC Joanna Marshall (played by Sophie Rundle) as she investigates the death of a man, later revealed to be Daniel Eden (Arthur McBain), after a tragic flood.
What happened in the finale?
In the gripping final moments of After the Flood, Joanna confronted DS Phil Mackie (Nicholas Gleaves) in the hospital, just after she’d given birth to her baby daughter, Eve.
Joanna had gone into premature labour after she was involved in a road traffic accident with Lee (Jonas Armstrong), who died in the crash. But before he did, he revealed the truth about Chris Robinson’s (James Quinn) death.
She’d also discovered he had Lee kill Daniel.

Speaking to Pat (Matt Stokoe) moments before confronting Mackie, Joanna revealed: “Lee told me that he killed Chris Robinson to stop him talking and Mackie was with him when he did.”
Mackie then walks up to Joanna and Pat in the hospital corridor with a plan to make everything go away. “All roads will lead to Lee,” he says, before adding, “this way we can make it alright.”
However, Joanna calls him out. “You’re bent, you’re corrupt,” she says, explaining that she knows about the part he plays in Chris and Daniel’s deaths.
But Mackie turns the accusations around on Joanna as she doesn’t have any evidence to back up her claims.

“If you break ranks and report anything to anyone, you’ll be pressing the self destruction button,” Mackie warns.
He continues: “Chris Robinson’s death was your fault.
“If you’d kept out of it and followed police procedure, he’d still be alive.
“I have documented every misdemeanour and wrong step you’ve made and I’ll lay it all out if I have to and you’ll go down for it.”
Mackie also threatens her partner Pat with prison, which could leave Eve without parents.
He then tells Joanna to enjoy the rest of her life with her newborn baby before walking away.
ITV viewers are furious about the ending
This cliffhanger ending left ITV viewers shocked and begging for more, as they didn’t want to see Mackie get away with it.
“Oh, you can’t end it like that!” one viewer moaned on X, formerly Twitter.
Another furious viewer said: “What the f***? You can’t end it like that.”
While a third said: “Omg, there needs to be another series. Mackie can’t get away with it.”
“They should have tied up loose ends,” a fourth viewer criticised.
