Cait, 21, said her character will be involved in a "hardhitting" storyline that will slowly unravel as viewers learn more about her past.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun at The TV Choice Awards on Monday, Cait said: "There's a lot happening with her [Lauren], I love playing her. Big things are coming for Lauren in 2024.

""With the whole boyfriend thing, I can't say too much but it is going to unfold over the next year potentially.

"It's a heavy storyline but Coronation Street always smash the hardhitting stuff, so I'm really excited."

Cait admitted that her character still has a long way to go until she has redeemed herself in the eyes of her fellow Corrie residents.

"I think with Lauren stability is a massive issue, there's something missing," she told us.

"Her dad's not in the picture, her mum's not in the picture. And I think all Lauren wants is love.

"She'll cling onto anything to be loved."

Cait continued: "There's a journey she needs to go on, she's not where I want her to be yet but there's time.

"Because she's such a complex character to play, a lot of people aren't going to like her.

"But she's a young girl, she makes mistakes and I think that's what life is all about - making mistakes and learning from them

"Fingers crossed by the end point, she redeem herself on the street and have that stability going forward."

Many viewers were gutted that Lauren and Max Platt's romance came to an end last year - including Cait.

But the soap star has teased that love may still be on the cards for her character.

"I think that's why her and Max have such a massive connection - they have that bond," she shared.

"I love working with Paddy [Bever ], it's just that instant connection - we hit it off from day one.

"I think when you care so much and deeply about a person, it comes across so well on screen, it's such a joy."

The star said she has no plans on leaving the soap anytime soon, especially as her big storyline unfolds this year.

Cait added: "Hopefully, if they'll [ITV] have me.

"I love working there, I love everybody there.

"I work with such amazing people everyday. I learn so many things every single time I'm in."

After getting involved with the wrong crowd when she was initially introduced to ITV viewers, Lauren is desperately trying to get her act together.

Although she is trying her best to stick to the straight and narrow, it's clear that Lauren is still encountering some issues next week.

In recent weeks, viewers of the Manchester-based program and residents of the cobbles have been concerned for her well-being as she revealed she had a mystery boyfriend.

But when it boiled down to her introducing her new beau, Lauren made a string of excuses, hinting she could be in serious danger.

Lauren reluctantly revealed that she makes videos for O-Vidz, much like Ryan Connor did before her following his acid attacks.
