Co-host Naga Munchetty joked about Carol's excitement for the upcoming segment on a man who spent eight years building a sculpture of the Eiffel Tower out of matchsticks.

She asked her fellow BBC Breakfast presenter: "The real information you wanted was about matchsticks, the number of matchsticks in boxes? Didn't you?"

The 61-year-old responded with the inappropriate quip: "I'm constipated with anticipation."

Naga was taken aback by the confession, exclaiming: "Oh that sounds painful! I hope you can sort that out!"

Charlie Stayt chimed in from the red sofa adding: "I wasn't expecting that!"

After the awkward exchange Carol was seen sneaking off screen as the cameras panned back to her.

Naga noticed her leaving and decided to crack another joke, giggling: "Oh look she's left! The constipation of excitement is getting to her."

An unimpressed Charlie put an end to the conversation, hitting out: "Get on with it, will you please get on with it."

His co-presenter got the segment back on track by revealing that it would have taken 8,300 match boxes to complete the artistic project.

This means his tiny wooden architectural model must have cost £11,700 to make.

Carol made a tongue in cheek response, saying: "Wow I’m impressed, that’s good information. Good for the next pub quiz I must say, I’ll remember that."
