‘I can’t cope!’ cry Silent Witness fans who are ‘sobbing their eyes out’ over milestone moment they’ve waited years for

Jack and Nikki’s romance is heating up

SILENT Witness viewers were left “sobbing their eyes out” last night after Jack Hodgson and Nikki Alexander reached a major relationship milestone which has been years in the making.

At the very end of Wednesday night’s episode, Jack (played by David Caves) and Nikki (Emilia Fox) had a heart to heart where they finally said those three little words to each other.

The most recent two-part storyline in Silent Witness, titled Death By a Thousand Hits, has been full of drama. The team at the Lyell are brought in to investigate the death of Burmese man, Mr, Lwin, after his body is found on a beach. At the same time, his pregnant wife searches for him and prays she will find him alive.

As the episode progresses, the situation becomes more complex and Jack and Nikki enter uncharted territory as they search for the truth.

Unfortunately, another death occurs before they can get to the bottom of things and at the end of Part 2, the couple find themselves attending the funeral of Home Office official Elinor Shaw (played by Julie Graham).

But it’s in this moment that Jack takes stock of his life and realises what’s most important to him; Nikki.

Overwhelmed with emotion after leaving the funeral, Jack hesitates in front of a headstone and ponders what Elinor’s will say. He then reflects on his own death, asking Nikki, "Who's gonna visit our grave? Who will weep when we're gone?"

Jack, clearly wanting to say more, then turns to face Nikki. "I need to tell you. I love you,” he tells her.

He continued: “And I know this is a twisted crap place to do it but I need to say it. Right now. Right here. Am I completely off my head?"

“Yeah,” Nikki replied smiling, before adding, “I love you too. So much."

Although there was some miscommunication, the pair then slept together at the beginning of the following season in the episode History, Part 1.

Jack and Nikki’s relationship became official later that season in History, Part 4.

Of course, the pair were pining for each other long before that, even when Nikki was dating American Matt Garcia (Michael Landes).

And their connection was evident even before that. It was obvious the pair had feelings for each other when Jack raced against the clock to save Nikki from being buried alive in Awakening, Part 2, which was the series 20 finale.

Since the pair officially became a couple, Silent Witness fans have been treated to some adorable Jack and Nikki moments, including a steamy romp earlier this season, which was another major milestone for the characters.

Silent Witness sees Nikki and Jack kiss on the sofa

Star Emila Fox opened up about Jack and Nikki making the transitions from friends to lovers, admitting that it was exciting to see that play out on screen.

“What audiences seem to have liked over the last decade is Nikki and Jack’s communication. They have fun together and care for and love each other. Now they’ve transitioned from friendship into a relationship, it does make it different between them,” she told the BBC
