In an emotional on-screen reunion with his Hairy Bikers co-star Si King, Dave also told how he was diagnosed with anorexia as he struggled to gain weight.

Dave gave his health update as the pair got back together for the brand new BBC2 series The Hairy Bikers Go West.

Sitting proudly on his bike, Dave told Si: "When I was told I was ill, I never thought I'd ride a motorcycle again. But we're doing it!

"There was a time when I couldn't balance, I couldn't walk. I didn't think I'd be getting on a bike. But I'm sound as a pound mate."

Handing his pal a cup of tea before embarking on a culinary road trip to the Isle Of Bute, 57-year-old Si asked: "How did you get that back? Bloody hard work?"

Dave replied: "Hard work and physiotherapy.

"I've still got my foot in a splint to change gear but it works. It's joyous. I love the whole paraphernalia with the bike, the smell of the bike.

"It's a dream come true, Kingy. I appreciate it so much."

Later in the episode, Si asked Dave about his "eating habits" since his cancer diagnosis in May 2022.

“How have your eating habits changed in the past year? Because you’ve had it pretty rough...” he questioned.

Dave revealed: “You lose weight, a lot of it, and you’re desperately trying to get the calories in and it’s hard. It’s really hard.

“At one point I was diagnosed as anorexic. Can you believe it after all the dieting we’ve done?

“But yeah, I’m doing alright now, I’m living with it. My weight’s stable so whatever I’m doing, I’ll carry on with it.”

Dave has spoken openly about his cancer battle since his diagnosis. However, he has chosen not to publicly specify which type.

Two months ago, he left fans in tears as he shared a raw update during the Hairy Bikers' Christmas Special.

As viewers watched previously unseen clips of the chef's hospital treatment, he also recalled the moment he received his diagnosis.

Dave said: "When I first got the call, what went through my mind was disbelief, and a refusal to believe it in a way.

"It's the word, isn't it, the word that everybody fears."

He added: "I didn't want to eat. I would fall over quite a lot. By the second lot of chemo my hair came out really quite radically.

"Your hair, eyelashes, everything just goes. I've never gone on about what sort of cancer I've got because I feel like that's my business.
