EASTENDERS' Cheryl Fergison today insisted that the late Paul O'Grady "would have wanted" her to present For The Love Of Dogs.

The former soap star, 58, also revealed how she has been "struggling to find work" ever since she was axed from the BBC programme 12 years ago.

In a bizarre social media video, Cheryl can be seen talking about how she should've been chosen for the plum job of being the new host of, For The Love Of Dogs.

After Paul's sad death last year, ITV set about finding a new presenter to preside over the show, and last week they revealed they had chose Alison Hammond.

I'm just telling you I'm perfect for a lot of jobs but you guys are not putting me up for them.

Cheryl has now revealed her desire to host the show, and that Paul would've "given his blessing" - she also took a swipe at new host Alison.

Addressing her followers, Cheryl said: "You know, I can turn my hand to most things, I'm not begging for a job.

"I'm just telling you I'm perfect for a lot of jobs but you guys are not putting me up for them, letting me go for them, and I don't know why.

"I say good luck to Alison Hammond (for getting) For The Love Of Dogs, but I'm telling you now, Paul O'Grady would've definitely given me his blessing to do that job, because a) I have a dog, we've discussed our dogs quite a lot and I've always had dogs in my life, and erm yeah, dogs are the best, it's that simple."

Regular BBC One viewers will remember how Chery's character Heather Trott was bludgeoned to death by troublemaking Ben Mitchell in 2012, leaving them in tatters as the character was a fan favourite.

Since then, the actress has had a complete career U-turn as Cheryl moved on to offering singing lessons to her students via Zoom for £60.

Despite her strong popularity on EastEnders, "Hev" was killed off as Ben Mitchell picked up a photo frame and hit her over the head.

Actress Cheryl never chose to leave the program herself as the decision was made by EastEnders executives.

At the time, a source told The Sun: "Heather’s character has been hugely popular over the years, but the decision has been taken to cut her out of the show before viewers tire of her."

Following her departure, Cheryl revealed how hard it was for her to find a new acting job following her stint in soap land and began broadcasting her new venture, singing lessons, on TikTok.

She has also been helping aspiring actors kick off their careers.
