He took his time writing the next series, hoping that the next installment of Gi-hun's story lives up to fans' expectations.

Now it finally seems the wait is almost over, as the streaming platform released a trailer for the second season.

Netflix also hinted at a release date, writing: "Coming this year!" as they posted the video clip on X.

The hit Korean thriller followed protagonist Seong Gi-hun as he competed in the sinister 'squid games' throughout season one.

Although he was initially kidnapped alongside hundreds of other South Koreans and forced to complete the challenges, they were eventually given the choice to continue playing or return home.

The prize for winning would be a life changing sum of money - 45.6 billion won (£270k) - but the price of failure is death.

Gi-hun won the games but during the process lost many of his dear friends and returned to reality horrified by the things he had seen.

The trailer for the second season shows him warning a mysterious caller who works for the games that he will hunt down everyone involved.
