Emmerdale will be brought forward by 30 minutes on the evening for a 7pm start time following by the football kicking off at 7:30pm until 10:20pm.

The ITV News will then follow with an airing of Joanna Lumley's Spice Trail Adventure bringing the channel's coverage to a close for the day.

Corrie fans are likely to be outraged by the decision with fans often left fuming that the soap is regularly given the boot in order to air live coverage of sporting tournaments.

In the soap, the Bailey family have been reeling from the fall-out of Ed's gambling addiction.

It saw him and wife Aggie call it quits for good amid his relapse.

In the episode, Ed admitted: "She's washed her hands of me."

Referring to the split, he said: "I honestly never thought I'd see this day."

Ed was left in tears as Dee Dee attempted to comfort him, unaware that the worst was yet to come.

He added: "I can still picture the first day we met, [it's] coming up to 34 years."
