Call The Midwife star left with hypothermia after ‘unbelievable’ conditions on BBC set
A CALL The Midwife star was left with hypothermia after 'unbelievable' conditions on the BBC set.
The drama is set in Poplar, East London but in an upcoming episode, a number of characters head off on a day trip to the seaside.
This meant Call the Midwife cast and crew had to film on location at the beach for the summery scenes.
Unfortunately, their timing couldn't have been worse, as they ended up being caught in a storm which made filming conditions difficult.
Cliff Parisi, who plays Fred Buckle, was one of the cast members who suffered the most in the cold and windy environment.
The 63-year-old revealed: "Everything was going sideways. The wind was unbelievable, it was so cold.

"I was wearing a shirt with a hanky on my head. I managed to keep the hanky the whole time - but I got hypothermia in the end.
"They had to take me off-set. I had to warm up, I couldn’t go back on. We’d done most of it by that point.”
Thankfully he felt better after spending time in the warmth with a foil blanket around him.
He said: "It was a laugh, but it was difficult to film, things were flying all over the place.
"Hair and make-up gave up and ran for cover. One of the crew did as well, we had two cameras then we had one. There was sand in everything."
Co-star Annabelle Apsion, who plays Fred’s wife Violet, added: “It was a nightmare for continuity but in the end, they just gave up and said, ‘We can’t do anything.'
“The weather had been fantastic just before we shot and was again just after we shot. But while we were actually there it could not have been worse. It was hysterical.”
The cast had previously revealed that the director of the episode had been 'blinded' after getting some sand in their eye while filming at the beach.
Call the Midwife airs Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
