After series 12 ended in February 2023, fans were left wondering if the BBC drama would return.
They finally got their answer in the summer of last year when the broadcaster confirmed Death In Paradise was renewed for a further two seasons and filming on series 13 began shortly after.
In the middle of filming, Ralf opened up about Neville’s future in an Instagram Q&A.
Addressing rumours about a possible exit, Ralf explained that he has no plans to leave the series, but admitted it’s not always up to him.

Discussing a possible replacement, he said: “I don’t know. I have no idea, I’m not gonna swerve answering the question. I don’t know. I don’t know which direction they’re gonna go in.
“I have honestly no idea and they haven’t told me. Maybe they had no idea yet.”
Ralf noted that he’s just as in the dark as viewers about the future of the show.
He said: “I like the rest of you are going to be just sitting and asking, ‘Who’s next?’ Who knows? No idea. But we’ll see what happens."
However, Ralf did some teasers about the upcoming series.
Explaining what viewers can expect, he said: “We’re going to try and pick up with the tone of the end of last year.”
He continued: “We really tried to push the boat out in series 12.
"[It was] not just a mystery every week and solving the mystery and moving on, but really trying over the course of a series really trying to find challenges for the main characters, to try and find things for them to overcome, emotional things.”
Referring to Neville being framed and going to prison, he added: “We took a bit of a leap with that last year and it worked out really well and people seemed to really enjoy it and we felt that we made a really good show, so there’s going to be more of that this year and more challenges for the characters.”
Death In Paradise will return to screens on Sunday, February 4, and the new season will kick off with an explosive episode which marks the 100th instalment of the show.
