Ann Cleeves, the author behind the character of DCI Vera Stanhope, has seen the details of her next book published online which has led fans to 'rumble' the stories they expect to see when the programme returns in 2025.

The front cover of the American edition of Ann's book The Dark Wives appeared online on X - formerly Twitter - which got fans' minds racing at to just what could be in store for the detective.

A description for the book on Amazon which 'leaks' the plot, reads: "A man’s body is found in the early morning light by a local dog walker on the common outside Rosebank, a care home for trouble teens.

"The victim is Josh, a staff member, who was due to work the previous night but never showed up.

"DI Vera Stanhope is called out to investigate the death. Her only clue is the disappearance of one of the home’s residents, fourteen-year-old Chloe Spence.

"Vera can’t bring herself to believe that a teenager is responsible for the murder, but even she can’t dismiss the possibility."

'Leaking' another potential twist, the book indicated the arrival of a brand new character called Rosie Bell.

The teaser continued: "Vera, Joe and new team member Rosie Bell are soon embroiled in the case, and when a second body is found near the Three Dark Wives landmark in the wilds of the Northumbrian countryside, superstition and folklore begin to collide with fact.

"Vera knows she has to find Chloe to get to the truth, but it seems that the dark secrets in their community may be far more dangerous that she could ever have believed possible."

It was recently confirmed that Vera would be back for a two episode outing in 2025 - a much shorter run than usual.

It comes after, actress  sparked  for Vera.

Despite the news that it wasn't going anywhere anytime soon, fans were still left disappointed at how far away it was and the short episode length but still managed to share some joy and excitement.
