VERA fans have been left 'gutted' as ITV revealed the future of the show - and Brenda Blethyn stepped in to comfort fans.
It comes after, actress Brenda Blethyn sparked axed fears recently for Vera.
Last night, the ITV drama returned to screens, showing DCI Stanhope and Joe Ashworth working together to solve the case of a chip shop owner's death.
After the final episode of Vera, fans wondered if Season 14 would happen.
Unfortunately, viewers of the show were disappointed to learn that the next episode would not arrive until 2025.
Many viewers took to X/Twitter to share their disappointment after hearing the bad news.

One wrote: "Gutted to hear @ITV #vera is coming back in 2025, Vera seems to get shorter and shorter. We need to see more of Brenda Blethyn, Vera on our screens 2025 is too far away."
A second added: "2025 Oh that's ages away."

Brenda, 77 also stepped in and took to social media to address a fan's concern about her future as the beloved detective.
The fan asked: The fan asked: "Why are lots here saying this is the last #Vera ?? Have I missed something??"
To which the actress replied: "It's not the last."
The programme has been a staple of ITV's drama offering for over a decade now.
Vera aired its first ever Christmas special in December as a fan-favourite departed the show.
Viewers watched as Kenny Doughty left as his character Aiden Healy bowed out.
