The appeal for virgins has so far not produced any takers

But an appeal has so far produced zero applicants for the show, dubbed Virgin Island.

A TV insider said: “Bosses have been looking for adults who are virgins to take part since the show was first revealed last July.

“But the application date for the series has had to be extended to allow for contributors to send off their forms.

“Producers now hope to start filming this spring but the clock is ticking.

“Bosses are baffled as to how they’re still struggling to find any virgins.”

The programme will be set in a luxury villa in the Mediterranean.

The team behind it hoped to coach a cast of beginners as they learn life-changing skills about intimacy, face their sexual fears and find confidence to do the deed.

The source added: “Of course, the whole thing would be tastefully done.

“This is a bold social experiment as opposed to anything raunchy, so contributors shouldn’t feel afraid of coming forward.

“There’s a whole host of programmes that require sexual courage on TV and they don’t struggle to cast — like Naked Attraction and Open House, they even try out orgies.
