Having set a budget of £675,000 for their perfect home in Cornwall, the couple set out to find a two bedroom property with a sun room, garden and access to dog walks.

After viewing a few places, the couple eventually settled on a former farmhouse that they needed to increase their budget to £695,000 for.

The property was in a stunning location with breathtaking views and within walking distance of three beaches.

Everything seemed to be going to plan with their purchase - until they turned on the TV a weeks later to watch Escape to the Country.

Gary said: "I said to Alison, let's pop it on (the show) and take a look because it was from Cornwall. Alison was in the kitchen and I said, 'I think I just saw the house that we're buying in the opening credits!'.

He continued: "Alison came in and we both looked at each other and said, 'Oh my God!'. It was a big surprise!"

Having already had an offer accepted, the couple were shocked to see presenter Steve Brown showing hunting couple Jackie and Michael the house Alison and Gary had fallen in love with.

Host, Sonali was stunned after hearing the story, and asked the pair how long after seeing the property did they see it on the show?

Alison and Gary had already exchanged contracts and were waiting for final completion before they could say it was legally their home.

But thankfully, Jackie and Michael decided they didn't like the place and didn't put an offer in.
