The Chase legend hits back at fans amid calls he should be sacked for ‘easy’ mistake on ITV show
ONE of The Chase's most iconic stars has responded to fans who asked for him to be ‘sacked’ after making an ‘easy’ mistake.
Shaun 'The Dark Destroyer' Wallace and Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty appeared on This Morning and discussed what it was like to work on the beloved ITV gameshow with hosts Josie Gibson and Dermot O’Leary.
While appearing on Tuesday’s episode of the popular morning show, Shaun revealed how he responds to backlash online while sharing his "Achilles' heel" following the launch of Beat The Chasers' new season.
The 63-year-old professional quiz player also disclosed his weak spot in general knowledge.
During the sit-down, he explained: “Everyone has an Achilles heel, mine is soaps.
"I was one question away from winning a Chase episode and they asked me what colour is Marge Simpson’s hair.

“If you’ve never watched The Simpson like I’ve never watched The Simpsons, you’re not going to know.”
Anne quickly interrupted and said: “That’s not really a soap question”, while Josie and Dermot chuckled quietly amongst themselves.
Shaun then replied: “Soaps, animation, whatever. Same thing to me.
“I got such backlash from social media saying, ‘You should be sacked, you’re rubbish,’ but questions are only easy if you know the answers.”
Anne, who recently dismissed the claims of cheating on the show, went on to disclose how the team dealt with the constant backlash from competitive fans online.
She told the presenters and viewers: “We all get those backlashes, and we all just ignore them.”
However, Shaun insisted that despite the backlash from displeasing fans, he always finds the time to take pictures with viewers who stop him in public.
He continued: “I’ll always stop and take photographs, or I sometimes send photos to mothers and grandmothers.
“Because for me, I’m always grateful of the fact that the public make me famous, and it’s one way of saying thank you.”
Shaun, along with his fellow chasers Anne, Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan, and Darragh Ennis, are the nation's biggest quiz geniuses, making them the hardest to beat in Britain.
Speaking on the other chasers, he shared: "We really rate and respect each other and we really get on really well. The six of us are really good friends, and we love and respect each other."
Anne added: "We spend a lot of time with each other anyway, and when we are doing something like The Chase, we've all got our own separate dressing rooms.
"But the crew have got used to the idea that if they want to find The Chasers, they're probably all congregated in one dressing room... and they're quizzing."
On a recent episode of The Chase, Mark, aka The Beast, was left speechless after the contestants set an 'unheard of' record during a tense final chase.

During Monday's episode of the ITV gameshow, hosted by Bradley Walsh, the chaser faced off against a group of four contestants who made show history after they answered all four one-question shoot-outs correctly, which left the star floored.
The Chase airs on weekdays on ITV1 from 5pm or catch up on ITVX.
