Finders Keepers viewers ‘give up’ on The Inbetweeners’ star’s ‘tedious’ new drama after just one episode

CHANNEL 5 fans were seriously divided by new drama Finders Keepers starring The Inbetweeners star James Buckley and Waterloo Road’s Neil Morrissey. 

Some viewers of the series, which aired on Wednesday, were left saying they wouldn't "bother" finishing it off. 

The four-part drama, created by Dan Sefton, who wrote The Good Karma Hospital and Trust Me, follows the main characters, metal detectorist Martin, played by Neil and his future son-in-law Ashley, played by James Buckley.

The first episode sees the pair stumbling across Saxon coins and jewellery worth half a million pounds, but they are soon faced with more problems when they decide to sell the items and fix their money woes. 

Things go from bad to worse when the men start facing more dilemmas after Martin's wife is tempted by another man while their daughter doubts her relationship with Ashley.

As Finders Keepers aired, fans took to X(Twitter) and shared their thoughts on the Channel 5 thriller, with one saying, “ Hmmm... not sure I'll be tuning in for the rest of the series of #FindersKeepers. It's a bit tedious, isn't it?"

Another agreed: "Don't think I'll stick with this #FindersKeepers."

While a third chimed in: "Switching off now," just five minutes into the premiere.

However, others enjoyed the series and took to the social media platform to praise the show.

One user wrote: "Tuned in to #FindersKeepers on #Channel5 in order to watch my friend, @ThomJacksonWood, in his biggest acting role yet.

"As a bonus, I have to say that Neil Morrissey is agieng like a fine wine! Will definitely be watching next week!"

Another added: "Can't wait for next week #finderskeepers @Channel5Press @channel5_tv proper good old British drama."

Other fans mentioned how easy the drama made it seem to find ancient treasures lying around. As one viewer said: “#FindersKeepers @ITV Well... It’s not #Detectorists @tobyjonesactor #mackenziecrook… but then nothing is." 

Another followed: "Wow #finderskeepers now on TV... some metal detectors there! All that ancient gold jewellery literally buried an inch under the soil! think I might go buy one myself if it's that easy.

A synopsis for the programme reads: "When Martin and Ashley embark on a metal detecting trip in the fields of a farm, they find a hoard of buried Saxon treasure worth millions. 

“They must deal with the dilemma of declaring it or selling it privately with the help of Ashley's ex-con friend."

Finders Keepers continues on Wednesday at 9pm on Channel 5.
