VIEWERS have been left ’emotionally destroyed’ after binge-watching a new heartbreaking series, which will land on Disney+ at the end of this month.

The new mini-series, which has earned a  rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and was also made by Aaron Kaplan's Kapital Entertainment, is a family murder mystery drama with global locations and a diverse cast.

Black Cake is based on The New York Times-bestselling novel by Charmaine Wilkerson, with the story being set in Jamaica, Italy, Scotland, England and Southern California. 

The new series, set in the late 1960s, follows a runaway bride called Covey on the run for her husband's murder. 

She is feared drowned or a fugitive after disappearing into the surf off the coast of Jamaica.

In present-day California, the story of Covey is narrated by a widow named Eleanor Bennett, who loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children, Byron and Benny, a flash drive that rocks their world. 

Through the tapes, her children discover the untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America, challenging everything they thought they knew about their family's origin.

The trailer for Black Cake, starring London-born Ashley Thomas, also known as Bashy, has now been released by Disney+, with the episodes due to land on the platform on January 31. 

However, since the series landed in the US on November 1, it has grown in popularity, with many fans claiming that they have become obsessed with the show.

Taking to X(Twitter) to share their thoughts, many fans admitted that they didn’t expect to become so invested in the show. 

One viewer penned: “I’ve binge-watched Black Cake. It’s 3am, and I’m on episode 4. I have work in the morning, but this maybe the best love story I have ever read. I am emotionally destroyed.”

Another added: “Okay, so I started watching Black Cake today. My entire agenda for the day was thrown off. I had to literally pry myself from the TV.”

A third wrote: “Black Cake had me in a chokehold. I was drinking and pausing and like heeeeeelllllooooo. It just continues to keep you on the edge.”

A fourth followed: “Black Cake, one of the best shows I seen in a long time.”

Mia Isaac, Adrienne Warren, Chipo Chung, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi and Glynn Turman will be starring alongside Ashley in this heartfelt series.

The series, also from The Handmaid’s Tale producer Marissa, has picked up a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes already.

Oprah’s production company purchased TV rights for the series before the novel was even published, after a bidding war. 

Disney+ has many other big projects coming up, including a new Star Wars film.

Mandalorian and "Baby Yoda" will be hitting the big screens in the first Star Wars film to be dropped six years after Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker was released in 2019.

The film will be going into production later this year.
