ITV viewers fans beg Love Island All Stars bosses to ‘step in’ even before the show starts after they scrap major rule

Love Island made the massive shake-up to the rules back in 2022

ITV viewers have begged Love Island All Star producers to "step in" after a major rule was scrapped for this series.

The popular dating show banned contestants from social media in 2022 - meaning their friends and family were not allowed to post on their behalf while they were on the show.

The All Stars line-up, which include the likes of Mitchel Taylor, Georgia Harrison and Liberty Poole, are currently in South Africa with no access to their phone - but their social media accounts are being looked after by their loved ones.

Two years ago, the show introduced a guideline asking participants to pause their social media for the duration of their time on the show, to ensure that both the Islanders and their families are protected from the adverse effects.

This rule appears to have been relaxed for the All Stars series, which has caused concern among fans.

Many have said that producers need to safeguard the contestants from nasty trolls on social media, especially those from series one who may have not been exposed to this level of hate during their series back in 2015.

One wrote: "Love Island can you please monitor the comments better and remove any nasty or negative comments.. ESPECIALLY with all the mental health issues and suicides associated with this show! Do better at protecting your contestants please."

A second replied: "THIS. and all the commentators supporting their statements saying stuff like 'I’m not the only one commenting it', 'she’s a public figure, I can comment,' 'but it’s honest', and 'I't’s a free country', these comments are disgusting."

A third echoed: "They should limit comments permanently IMO."

"What’s with all these judgemental little girls on here commenting on Elizabeth's looks age and the fact she’s had surgery. Did your mothers never teach you if you’ve got nothing nice to say don’t say anything. Your commenting like your all 10/10 perfect, the only person who should care what she looks like is her and she’s confident and loving life so," a fourth shared.

This person agreed and said: "Hasn’t there been enough suicides from love island for people to know they should be kind?"

While another commented: "THE FANS/stans are horrific! I don’t know how a lot of the islanders deal with the hate."

The Love Island Duty of Care policies and procedures are reviewed after each series and reflect feedback from former Islanders.

In 2022, Love Island made the massive shake-up to the rules as it introduced a social media ban.

The latest series saw all contestants change their bio on Instagram to “I’m off to find love in the Love Island villa. See you soon!"

In the past, Islanders' teams used their accounts to encourage viewers to vote for them and build up their following.

However, they were often subject to vile abuse from trolls and there were even occasional spats between contestants' family and friends.
