THE 2024 Golden Globes made history this year - and it comes after the ceremony's host told a jaw-dropping joke that didn't land.
The 81st Golden Globe Awards ceremony was hosted by comedian Jo Koy at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, California.
Later in the ceremony, Ali Wong made history with her Best Actress win for her role in Beef by becoming the first actress of Asian descent to take home the award in that category.

Born on February 17, 1991, Jeremy Allen White is an actor from Brooklyn.
For several years until middle school, Jeremy had a strong interest in dancing.
It was in his teens that he really started to and landed the role of Lip Gallagher on Shameless immediately after high school.
Shameless ran on Showtime from 2011 to 2021.
White now stars in Hulu culinary dramedy The Bear, which was first released in June of 2022.
Jeremy Allen White has won two Golden Globe awards for his performance as Carmy in The Bear.
Fans react to Taylor Swift's loss
On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans shared their thoughts after Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour lost to Barbie.
One wrote: "Golden globes is rigged taylor should have won."
"I hope Taylor never goes to these FILM INDUSTRY non worthy award shows. She is more impactful and popular than everyone in that room combined," another angry fan exclaimed.
A third said: "Taylor was robbed at Golden Globe Awards!!! How can you compare a cartoon movie with a global phenomenon?"

Jo Koy reacts to Taylor Swift's 'death stare'
Host Jo Koy made a joke during last night's ceremony that left Taylor Swift looking unhappy as she pursed her lips and took a sip of her drink in a now-viral moment.
"The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift," the comedian had joked.
After the ceremony, Koy told that the joke was meant to be "cute."
"Aww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute. I was just saying it's less cutaways, that's all," the comedian said.
He then suggested that the singer was "just thirsty" when she took a sip of her drink in response to his jab.
"Maybe she was thirsty? Maybe she just needed to drink the champagne."
Taylor Swift fans slam 'rigged' awards
Taylor Swift was nominated for a new award this year titled Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for her Eras Tour Film.
Other movies in this category were Barbie, Oppenheimer, The Super Mario Bros Movie, John Wick: Chapter 4, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One.
Unfortunately, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour lost to Barbie - Taylor's concert film $250million at the worldwide box office while Barbie brought in over $1.4billion.
The decision by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association left Swifties angry and disappointed.

Actor Zac Efron took to Instagram to congratulate his The Iron Claw co-star, Jeremy Allen White, for his Best Actor in a TV Comedy win.
"Yes chef!" Zac wrote on his story on top of a picture of the pair.

Who was last night's host?
Jo Koy took to the stage last night to host the Golden Globes.
He has starred in several stand-up specials for Comedy Central and Netflix, including 2017’s Live From Seattle, 2019’s Comin’ In Hot, and 2022’s Live From The LA Forum.
He’s also made television appearances on Family Tools, Mr Iglesias, and Awkwafina Is Nora From Queens.
Koy’s filmography includes roles in 2022’s Easter Sunday and 2023’s Haunted Mansion.
He’s also provided voiceover work for the Netflix animated movies The Monkey King and Leo.

The first Golden Globe for stand-up comedy performance was awarded last night.
Ricky Gervais was the first comedian to secure the new gong.
Ricky wasn't at the ceremony, so the award was accepted on his behalf.

Billie Eilish takes another Golden Globe home
Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, won the Golden Globe for What Was I Made For? for Barbie.
Billie said that writing this song “saved her” from a dark place after seeing the movie for the first time a year ago.
Barbie director Greta Gerwig was shown crying as Billie and Finneas got up to accept the award.
Fans spot Jennifer Lawrence’s hilarious message
Jennifer was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture.
However, the 33-year-old had plenty of hard feelings and mouthed a message to fans watching at home.
Jennifer looked directly at the camera and seemed to mouth, "If I don’t win, I’m leaving."

Oppenheimer took home 5 awards
Oppenheimer picked up five awards last night including best drama.
Cillian Murphy collected the award for best actor for his portrayal of J Robert Oppenheimer.
Robert Downey Jr. continued Oppenheimer's domination after accepting the Best supporting actor award.
Christopher Nolan acknowledged his team whilst accepting the best director award saying: “I can only accept this on behalf of people. As directors, we bring people together and we try to get them to give their best.”

Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts, tweeting their reactions to Jo Koy's jokes on X, formerly Twitter.
Most of the reactions were critical of Koy's take, calling his jokes "sexist."

Host joked about Barbie
Jo Koy got off to a great start as the host of the 81st annual Golden Globes, making the room laugh with his hot takes on the biggest films of 2023.
However, his jokes about one of the year's most critically and commercially successful films, Barbie, seemingly fell flat to the Globe's in-house audience and at-home viewers.
During his opening monologue, Koy hyped up some of the night's nominated films, including Oppenheimer and Saltburn.
However, when he got to Barbie, fans thought he had a questionable choice of words to describe the film.
"Barbie was based on a plastic doll with big boobs," he uttered.
First-time winner Ayo Edebiri
Ayo Edebiri won Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her performance in The Bear.
Barbie won in new category
After Barbie won the Golden Globe award recognizing cinematic and box office achievement, Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie gave a speech together to accept the award.
“Thank you to Noah Baumbach for showing his inner Barbie girl," Gerwig said.
"Thank you to Ryan Gosling for going full beach," Robbie added.
"And America Ferrera for showing her soul," Gerwig concluded.

In a blink-and-you-'ll-miss-it moment, the cameras caught Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet sharing a tender kiss at tonight's awards before quickly changing the view - despite several break-up rumors.
Timothee was nominated for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film for Wonka at the Hollywood award show, but lost to Paul Giamatti.
Oppenheimer wins
Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer has won Best Motion Picture - Drama.
The film beat out Past Lives, Anatomy of a Fall, Killers of the Flower Moon, The Zone of Interest, and Maestro.
Oppenheimer has snagged the most wins tonight with five awards.
Best Actress goes to...
LILY GLADSTONE has won the award for Best Actress for her performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
The actress spoke Blackfoot while accepting the award - which is her first Golden Globe nomination and first win.
Poor Things wins big
Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things has won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
As the cast got up to accept the award, Ramy Youssef and Mark Ruffalo kissed on the mouth.
Lanthimos gave a shoutout to Bruce Springsteen on stage and called him his "hero."
Paul Giamatti takes it
Paul Giamatti has won Best Actor for his performance in The Holdovers.
This is his sixth nomination and third win.
On stage, the actor recognizes his son and dedicates the award to teachers.
