Jason is known to listeners as the host of BBC Radio London's Early Breakfast output.

It sees him bringing the world up to speed with all the latest goings-on from the early time of 5:00am, however he has now broadcast his final show ever.

Writing about his decision to hang up his headphones, he said online: "What an adventure!

"It's been an extraordinary 16 year ride at the BBC filled with stories, moments, and experiences that have shaped me in profound ways.

"My final Early Breakfast show is [this morning] at 5am."

He then poignantly added: "It's not goodbye but a 'see you later.' "

Jason's show has been axed after the BBC implemented a series of changes to its local radio stations which has included making certain timeslots align with national programming as opposed to local updates.

His fans were left distraught at the news that he would be leaving his long-running role at the organisation.

Commenting underneath his post, one fan said: "Good luck Jason! You’ll be a massive loss but enjoy your last show and whatever comes next, you will fly!"

Someone else said: "You know we will listen to you again somewhere some day.

"Whether I speak with you tomorrow I don't know as I choke up very quickly. I hate what is happening to our station."

Before a third penned: "Wishing you all the best for the future fella. Extraordinary to think that the capital will no longer have its own dedicated early morning show as it wakes up with its own distinct needs. Sigh. Best of luck with your new ventures."

His news comes after a string of BBC stars have also walked away from the radio.

Just this week, Alex Hall, 74, admitted she couldn't quite believe her 35 years on local radio was now over.

Confirming she had left Radio Tees, she wrote: "This morning I did my last show on BBC local radio. My regular programme ended in November, but I was asked to do some cover, which I was happy to do. Delaying the inevitable. Today I have to concede defeat. 35 years in local and regional radio and it’s over. Wow."

The announcement came as a backlash continued against huge cuts by the BBC in its local radio teams across the country.
