Good Morning Britain fans outraged as Richard Madeley tells Laura Tobin ‘you’ve put on weight’ live on air

LAURA Tobin was left stunned on today's Good Morning Britain after Richard Madeley commented on her weight.

The show's resident weatherwoman and divisive Richard were reunited after the festive break, but it was a rather awkward re-introduction.

Veteran broadcaster Richard was once again compared to fictional radio star Alan Partridge as he picked apart Laura's appearance.

The presenter told her live on air: “You’ve put on a lot of weight with the lack of exercise, haven’t you?... joke”

Laura nervously laughed along with co-host Susanna Reid, who was quick to intervene on her behalf, saying: "Well you wouldn't be the only one, Laura, because I ate for Britain."

Laura explained she may have had a few mince pies and later replied: “I’m just going to take a long waddle across the studio later, Richard.”

He added: “We’re not getting on this morning, are we?”

It didn't escape viewers, with one writing on X: "Madeley /partridge trying his best to upset Laura today."

Another said: "Madeley is bonkers!, 'you put weight on over x', what a knob."

A third said: "Richard literally has no tact he was so rude to Laura and encouraging Lorraine to drink when she just said she was doing dry January he really needs to go cos he's offensive."

The meteorologist looked great in a form-fitting green dress on her return, and she proudly modelled it on her socials after the show.

Laura rang in the New Year with flutes of champagne as she partied with pals into the early hours. She followed the celebration with a tasty New Year's Day lunch.

Following Richard's comments, she posted on Instagram asking fans if she should snack on chocolates or a banana.

Richard isn't as active as Laura on social media but he did feature in daughter Chloe's posts over Christmas when the family went to The Ritz for Christmas.

Chloe was reunited with estranged husband James Haskell for the outing and their daughter Bodhi had a heart-warming meeting with Santa in the iconic venue's restaurant.
