NETFLIX fans have admitted they are “already hooked” on the streamers “riveting” new thriller Fool Me Once starring Michelle Keegan despite brutal reviews from critics.
Fool Me Once is a limited series based on the thriller novel of the same name by best-selling author Harlan Coben. However, critics seem to think the series is a cheap imitation of the source material, branding it all but “unwatchable.”
The eight-part series follows Michelle Keegan’s character Maya. It kicks off with the brutal murder of her husband Joe, played by Richard Armitage, but leads to a shocking mystery.
“When ex-soldier Maya sees her murdered husband on a secret nanny cam, she uncovers a deadly conspiracy that stretches deep into the past,” the official synopsis teases.
Alongside Michelle and Richard, Adeel Akhtar, Emmett J. Scanlan and Joanna Lumley star in this dark thriller.
However, the stacked cast was seemingly not enough to sway critics, who have absolutely slammed the series.

Giving it a rating of one out of five stars, The Independent proclaimed Fool Me Once is “TV that has the capacity to shock you – not because the plot is shocking, but because you’re shocked it’s still on.”
iNews also gave the series a poor review. Although it came with a higher score of two stars, the outlet warned “don’t start 2024 by watching this drivel.”
However, despite these brutal reviews, Netflix fans have been left impressed by the series and its cast.
Sharing their appreciation for the series on X, formerly Twitter, one Netflix fan said: “Started watching: Fool Me Once on Netflix. 20 minutes in and I am hooked.”

Netflix fans are absolutely racing through the series, admitting they watched several episodes in one go.
Just hours after the series premiered, one fan said: “Fool me once on Netflix. Just dropped today. Brilliant. Already on episode 3….. based on Harlan Coben novel.”
“Fool Me Once on Netflix is proper sink-into-the-sofa TV for New Year’s Day. We’re immovable and already up to episode 3,” admitted another viewer.
With such high praise from viewers, it seems Fool Me Once is on its way to joining a long list of fan-favourite thrillers on Netflix. Included in that list is another Richard Armitage-led vehicle, the miniseries The Stranger, along with fan-favourite series “You” and “Stay Close,” which was a popular watch in 2023.
Fool Me Once is available to stream on Netflix now.
