She was told it's down to the airline easyJet to allow her to fly - and has begged them for help on social media.

Michelle wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Please easyJet can you help me I have lost my passport at Malaga airport the police (I have been there ) say it is up to the airline to let me fly home.

"My flight is at 8.30pm tonight I am heading to the airport having just left the police station . Thank you Michele x."

Half an hour later, Michelle tweeted again: "Nobody is very helpful @easyJet this is awful."

Fans flocked to support the actress, with one saying: "That's terrible. I hope something gets sorted out soon."

Another said: "Surely after all these years in show business people would recognise you straight away."

Michelle recently returned to EastEnders after her character Cindy Beale faked her own death in 1998.

She spent New Year's Eve on the beach, sending fans a Happy New Year message.

"Happy new year to all of you who follow me on here," wrote Michelle.

"What a year it’s been , Cindy went back to the square who would’ve thought eh?

"There’s so much conflict in the world right now let’s hope 2024 is a better one for everyone."

An easyJet spokesman insisted Michelle will not be able to board without emergency documentation.

In a statement sent to The Sun, they said: "We have been in contact with Ms Collins to advise her to contact the British Embassy for assistance with emergency documentation for travel. This is always required if a passport is lost.

"While we sympathise with the situation, all immigration procedures are set down by the authorities, not the airline and so we must follow what is required by the authorities."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
