Huge ITV2 sitcom axed after just two series in another blow for Love Island star

This is the second show of his to be axed this year

LOVE Island narrator Iain Stirling has faced another blow as his ITV2 sitcom Buffering has been cancelled by show producers.

Despite it being reported in May that work was underway on a third series of the comedy programme, it has now been confirmed that it will not be happening.

The comedian's management company Avalon, which produced all 12 episodes of the show, told British Comedy Guide that Iain has turned his attention to focus on other projects.

They said: "Iain and Steve loved working with a brilliant cast and crew on Buffering, but the series isn't returning as availability-wise it was hard to fit filming in with Iain's busy schedule, particularly with the expanded series of Love Island in the USA."

The ITV2 show followed the lives of a group in their 20s as they found themselves stuck in the limbo of being too old for nightclubs and too poor for mortgages.

The regular cast were Steve Bugeja, Jessie Cave, Janine Harouni, Elena Saurel, Rosa Robson, Paul G Raymond, Sean Sagar and Phil Fletcher.

The show also featured guest roles from Laura WhitmoreJoel Dommett, Lolly Adefope, Emily Atack, Nigel Ng and Sophie Duker among others.

The news comes as another blow to the star as his show CelebAbility was axed in November.

Presented by IainScarlett Moffatt and Stacey Solomon were regular fixtures on the show, which saw celebs pitted against the public to take on a challenge.

An insider told The Sun: “CelebAbility had a decent run, but ultimately the format was a bit tired and celeb panel shows can feel dated.

“Bosses are always keen to try new ideas and invest in fresh telly projects, it’s time for a change and Iain isn’t short of work.”

Away from the screen, Iain has recently become a father and launched a true crime podcast, Partners In Crime, with his wife Laura.

He is expected to start touring his stand-up show Relevant on March 20 at the Royal & Derngate Theatre in Northampton.

His Bugeja's tour, Self Doubt (I Think), begins on May 16 at the Engine Shed, Lincoln.
