And now one of its sports anchors has been forced to apologise after his tongue-tied on air error.

During Thursday BBC News at One bulletin Chetan Pathak brought viewers the latest sports news.

As he covered Jürgen Klopp and his team winning the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup, he tried to explain the excitement on the pitch.

Describing the Liverpool manager's reaction, Chetan said: "We saw him fisting… bumping his fists in the air there."

Realising his awkward mistake, Chetan left out a small chuckle but tried his best to get things back on track.

But as ever eagle-eyed viewers clocked his blunder and flooded social media with their reactions.

One said: "A miracle he didn’t dissolve into fits of laughter after that."

A second posted: "Jürgen Klopp did what?"

Addressing the blunder, Chetan posted: "My apologies, lesson learnt. The next time I think I’ll ad-lib a story, I’ll stick to what’s written on the autocue."

It comes weeks after BBC News anchor Maryam Moshiri was caught appearing to give the middle finger live on air.

The bulletin returned to air just as Maryam was giving the rude gesture to the camera.

In a statement, the journalist told viewers: ""Hey everyone , yesterday just before the top of the hour I was joking around a bit with the team in the gallery.

"I was pretending to count down as the director was counting me down from 10-0.. including the fingers to show the number.

"So from 10 fingers held up to one. When we got to 1 I turned finger around as a joke and did not realise that this would be caught on camera.

"It was a private joke with the team and I’m so sorry it went out on air! It was not my intention for this to happen and I’m sorry if I offended or upset anyone.

"I wasn’t ‘flipping the bird’ at viewers or even a person really. It was a silly joke that was meant for a small number of my mates."
