Ben, 39, joined Jon Kay and Sally Nugent from a wholesale market in the city as the latest inflation figures were released.

However, during his live link Ben was disturbed by what appeared to be a customer at the market.

As he lingered and tried to get Ben's attention, the journalist was forced to halt his report.

Viewers could hear him tell the employee: "I don't work here I'm just doing the news."

Ever the professional, a smiling Ben continued with his report but it didn't go unnoticed by Jon, 53.

Back in the studio, he told him: "Ben thanks for explaining that and thanks for fitting us into your shift at the market this morning, that's very kind of you - what was happening just then?"

The pair then erupted into laughter before Ben said: "I can tell you the aubergines and peppers are £12 a box so if you want any I'll pick some up for you."

Meanwhile, Sally and Jon have presented their final BBC Breakfast show together before Christmas.

Fans will still see Jon however, who previously revealed he'll be working on the big day with Carol Kirkwood.

Sally, 53, brought the glamour for her final show as she rocked a velvet leopard print suit.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
