The new highly anticipated six-part series will once more invite viewers into the extraordinary world of Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s storytelling.

The BBC has revealed that the critically acclaimed and BAFTA Award-winning anthology series Inside No.9’s ninth season will air on screens sometime in 2024.

Last year, The Sun exclusively announced that the beloved comedy, which has been airing since 2014, would be wrapped up after series nine.

The stellar line-up of guest stars who will be featured in the forthcoming series has also been revealed.

Fronting series nine alongside entertainment legend Mathew, whose last significant role was in Benidorm in 2014, is Pennyworth star Dorothy Atkinson, Napoleon’s Mark Bonnar, This Country’s leading actress Charlie Cooper, Derry Girls star Philippa Dunne, Happy Valley actress Siobhan Finneran and Game of Thrones star Joel Fry.

Coronation Street actress Katherine Kelly, Happy-Go-Lucky star Eddie Marsan, Boiling Point’s Vinette Robinson, Gavin and Stacey actor Adrian Scarborough, Adult Material star Hayley Squires, and Chewing Gum’s Susan Wokoma will also be starring in the hit series, which BBC Studios Comedy Productions produced.

Similar to previous seasons, the new series will include individual episodes that change style and tone weekly.

Speaking on the upcoming series, the show creators Reece and Steve said: “It is with mixed emotions that we announce we have started filming the final series of Inside No. 9.

"We overheard some crew members the other day describe us as ‘a couple of Wonkas’ and that seems an apt description.

“We take the finest ingredients (stellar casts and creatives) and blend them with our secret recipe to produce unique confections that are delicious and often deadly.

“It has been the greatest privilege to have been allowed to make 55 wildly different episodes

"And we’ll miss the yearly challenge of trying to entertain and surprise our audience.

"We honestly feel like golden ticket winners - which makes us not a couple of Wonkas but a pair of Charlies.”

Inside No. 9 has become very successful and received widespread critical acclaim, winning an enviable étagère of awards, including Best Scripted Comedy at the 2021 BAFTA TV Awards following its launch in 2014

In 2019, Steve was honoured with Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme at the BAFTA TV Awards.

Director of BBC Comedy Jon Petrie expressed: “Reece and Steve have, once again, served up a stellar lineup of guests to star alongside them in their funny, beautifully crafted and totally original scripts.

“Inside No. 9 will be hugely missed, but this final series promises to be a treat for all their avid fans.”

The series, which consistently ranks as one of the biggest comedies across the BBC, is currently the longest-running comedy show on BBC Two as it stands, with shows airing globally in countries including the Nordics, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Australia and China

Head of Comedy for BBC Studios Productions, Josh Cole, added: “Inside No. 9 is an all-time comedy great, and Reece and Steve’s achievement in writing 55 extraordinary episodes is a little short of breathtaking.

“There is something so special about this show, and we will miss making it more than words can say.”
