Lorraine apologises as she breaks down in floods of tears on ITV show
LORRAINE Kelly was left sobbing today during a heartbreaking moment on the ITV breakfast show.
The TV pro apologised to viewers at home after she broke down in tears at the end of Friday’s episode.
Many in the studio were moved to tears after the Change + Check choir, made up of breast cancer survivors, sang their charity single Golden, to raise awareness of life-saving breast cancer checks.
Lorraine had previously said Golden would be dedicated to the memory of former colleague Hannah Hawkins, who sadly passed away from cancer after giving birth to her first child.
On today’s show, Lorraine was stood next to Hannah’s widower, Tom, who held their baby Rory.
Hannah was a digital producer for ITV and was diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time while pregnant with Rory earlier this year.
Mum-of-one Hannah had given birth to baby Rory weeks before she died.
She tragically passed away the day before before doting husband Tom’s birthday.
As the choral track ended Lorraine could be seen with tears rolling down her face and she tried to wipe them away.
She said: “I’m so sorry” as the final bars of the song played.
She then leaned down to baby Rory and said: “That’s your mummy’s song, that’s your mummy’s song.”
The Change + Check choir are hoping to make it to the top of the charts with Lorraine saying that she has her eyes set on a Christmas number one.
All net profits from downloads of the single ‘Golden’ will be going to breast cancer .
Earleir in today’s show, Tom told Lorraine how before Hannah died the couple had listened to the charity single with newborn Rory.
He also said it had been difficult to bond with the tot in the first few days of his son’s life, admitting: “He reminds me so much of Hannah.”
However, the besotted dad said the pair have been “pulling through” and have since been on a few “adventures” together.
The grieving spouse earlier this year poured his heart out on social media and hailed his “remarkable” wife and partner of 13 years.
He wrote: “There is no way I can pay tribute or sum you up in one post. I could write an essay on how unfair this is.
“That you miss out on seeing Rory growing up, that he won’t be able to feel the love of his mum, and that this terrible illness took hold so quickly. But that’s not how you saw it.
“The remarkable person that you were, the phrase you used so many times over the last few weeks – and it set me off every time; “I’m so at peace with the life I’ve lived” is something we can all admire.
“The fact that right until the end you were putting others’ feelings first and making us all laugh was just you to a tee.
“Your life can be defined simply by love, friendship and strength and I’ll make sure these are cornerstones of Rory’s life.
“I want him to know how much everyone loved his mum, and how much love you gave.
“How you would say to me in any of my dark moments, ”remember you are so loved’.
“I want him to know that you were someone who could walk into a room of strangers and come out having made friends for life and that our social calendar was always so full we physically couldn’t fit in everyone we wanted to see.
“I also want him to know the bravery you showed every day, facing anything life threw at you with the strength of a warrior, a smile on your face and laughter in your eyes.
“This is the legacy you leave for our little boy, this and so much more.”
Lorraine kicked off her morning TV show’s fifth annual Change + Check campaign earlier this year.
